About The Artist, Janice Lombardo

Since 2003, I have participated in many major art and craft shows and have also commissioned my work with several Art Galleries and various retailers throughout North East Ohio.

Since learning the basics of silk painting, I have had the opportunity to experiment and achieve my personal style through this medium. Silk painting dyes and resists (gutta) encompass many challenges and possibilities. I have branched out from using 100% Habotai (China) silk to experimenting with chiffon, crepe, velvet cut, charmeuse, and jacquard silks. I’ve successfully incorporated these fabrics into my repertoire and have expanded my designs in the painting of men’s silk ties, silk earrings, silk sun catchers and even silk parasols and nylon umbrellas. To fill a niche, I’ve also designed and hand-craft scarf slides made of silver, brass or copper wire. These slides have no sharp edges and some have beads to enhance their simplicity and beauty.

I have also found a great facility in helping others connect with their creative side. I thoroughly enjoy teaching and sharing the pleasure of silk painting. My students range in age from 8 to 80. Due to my association with The Gathering Place (a non-profit organization which supports anyone touched by cancer), I was privileged to teach silk painting to 20 cancer patients all within various stages of their illness. My philosophy is simple: If you can hold a paintbrush and learn the basics, anyone can do and enjoy silk painting. See my Classes and Shows page for schedules and more information.

I majored in Commercial Art at Cleveland State University in 1980-1981. After taking a ten-year hiatus to work full time and raise a family, I went back to school and earned my Bachelor of Science in Business Management degree from the David N. Myers University’s Accelerated Management Degree Program, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1995.

I have over 15 years experience in Corporate and Retail Marketing, Corporate Public Relations and Sales. These experiences coupled with inspiration from nature drive my current artistic endeavors.
Currently I am a substitute teacher for grades K-8 in the Wickliffe Public School System.

I am an active member of the Lake Erie Artists LLC, Silk Painters International (SPIN), the Professional Women’s Institute and The Women’s Center at Lakeland Community College.
